Everyone’s sense of style is as unique as his or her own fingerprints. Some people get this early on, others go through years of trial and error, experimenting frequently before they discover their true self. So what is personal style? How is it different from fashion? Why is it even important? And how do we develop it? For me, personal style is the projection of our true selves, our character and our ambitions, through the way we dress – giving insights into who we are as individuals. It’s the method of conveying who you are and how you’d like others to see you.

It was a real pleasure to work with Matt Harris recently, when I was recommended to him by a long-standing client of mine, Mino Themistocli.

Matt was getting married to his gorgeous fiancée, Lucy Hitchenor, on January 18th 2014 at the beautiful Rowton Castle Hotel in Shropshire. Standing at about 6'5" tall, broad shouldered and lean, Matt is built for tailoring - with a very specific idea in mind we got together in November to work out what he wanted to achieve.

As the art of dressing makes a comeback in menswear, the dinner suit is back in the limelight. So for any special formal occasion consider wearing the dinner suit as not so much a begrudging sartorial obligation, but rather, a rare opportunity to shine as the distinctive, dashing, debonair man that you are.

Just a quick post before I head off to Madrid for a few days for some much needed rest – though I intend to spend a lot of time wondering visiting the big designers out there and gaining some inspiration, so watch this space for updates!

Meantime just a quick note about the new tech accessories range from Giorgio Fedon…I’ve been using their products for a little while now, including the gorgeous iPad Mini flip cover case, in Italian “crocodile effect” orange leather.

About 5 months ago we visited the fine folks of Drakes of London at their offices in Savile Row to put together a collection of ties for our Autumn / Winter 2013/2014 collection.

Why Drakes? Well, they are quite simply amazing ties. Handmade right here in London using the best silks they rival the likes of Ferragamo and Hermes (2 of my favourite tie brands) for quality, design and elegance. They are the perfect compliment for the shirts and suits I create for my customers.

I can’t believe it’s been two months since my last update…tsk tsk and slapped wrists. A thousand apologies.

To tell you the truth, aside from the usual excuse of being extremely busy with my tailoring business, I was enjoying our fantastic but brief British Summer.

I traded in my Vespa GT 125 for a Piaggio LT500 Touring Sport and rode around glorious London as much as possible, my linen blend Roberto Revilla Bespoke shirts, jackets and trousers got plenty of use!

With (hopefully) spring and warmer weather approaching, it would be easy for me to talk about lighter weight suits - but the aspect of the wardrobe I have been talking about more often of late has been the smart/business casual side.

When I first started in this business my first boss gave me a hard time for walking into the office wearing a tie clip. Yes, I said this business as in fashion! The problem with that place was that, although they are still today one of the biggest custom suit makers in the world, only a percentage of employees are actually “fashion-aware”.

The rest, like my dear old boss, just looked like their customers… accountants, lawyers etc.

Anyway I am getting off point. I love tie clips as much as I love other accessories such as cufflinks, lapel pins and pocket squares.
